first day at habitat
Yesterday on January, 21 I went to Habitat for Humanity from 9-4, which is people who work on houses and build them for families in need. I went with my good friend Mark, who has been there before, so he was experienced at doing construction work. Before I got there I was nervous in thinking what if they don't teach me how build a house, how to use the tools because I wasn't that experienced. But I also though in a way that it wasn't going to be that much work, but o' boy was I wrong and you will see why I was wrong later. When we got there they had a brief speech on the rules and stuff like that and then he spilt us into groups. Me and Mark went with Eryn the teacher of our group, who was very nice and helpful. Our job at first was to set up walls on the second floor, but it wasn't easy. We had to drill nails, pull out nails, cut wood, more stuff like that for about 3 and a half hours till lunch. So My job at first was to pull out nail with my back of my hammer, which I have not done before, and by lunch I knew how to do it completely, I felt a lot more confident in my-self that if someone teaches me how do something at habitat and practiced it, I can do it. By Lunch I was compleatey exausted and I still have 3-4 hours left, but I kept my heads high adn pushed my-self to get the job done and I did. After lunch I worked on a platform, so what we did is destroyed some of the wood off, then wemeasured the lenth and width of it, and then we drilled nails into it for a long time, then we finished. My last job of the day was 2 things the first one was to use this magnut to pich up all the nails over the place, lets just say that took me a long time to accomplish. Finnaly I went up on a ladder and drilled and drilled and drilled nails to the walls and hammered it for a bout an hour and a half, then i was done iwth my hard work. So I leaned a couple things about my day, one is when i said I wasn't going to do much work, i was totallt wrong, I did tons and tons of work. Second I learned that it feels good to get the job done and help people in needs. And lastly I learned how much fun i had even though it was tiring. When i got home I was so exausted and wiped out but it was worth it.
